Removal of the radio antenna

I’ve hated the way the radio antenna looks on this car since day one. I’ve always planned on filling it in with fiberglass and doing it properly. I’ve spent years trying to figure something out, I’ve tried numerous things and nothing stuck. I replaced it with a power antenna, which didn’t work well and was way too heavy. I tried a little black cell type antenna and it looked dumb. For the past 10 years I’ve had the original, I just cut the top off. It was way too long. But then I got an idea.

I was washing dishes and I looked at my sink and there’s this little round cover sitting in the corner. It’s the place where you’d stick a soap dispenser or maybe a water filter spigot. There’s none of those there, just this little round cover looking thing. I hit the ground and looked under there and saw it had this post with threads on it. Eureka! This could be it.

And there you have it. Finally! I feel stupid for not thinking about this before. I swear I tried this already. Either way, it’s a little too big but way better than the antenna. I also got to ditch the antenna cable, which is thick. In keeping with everything else, the old cable had numerous “hidden” chunks taken out of it. I could see bare wire in multiple places. So safe.
